Community Update November 9,2025

Good afternoon, Wildcats!

Veterans Day originated as “Armistice Day” on November 11, 1919, the first anniversary of the end of World War I. Congress passed a resolution in 1926 for an annual observance, and November 11 became a national holiday beginning in 1938. Unlike Memorial Day, Veterans Day pays tribute to all American veterans—living or dead—but especially gives thanks to living veterans who served their country honorably during war or peacetime.

Veterans Day occurs on November 11 every year in the United States in honor of the “eleventh hour of the eleventh day of the eleventh month" of 1918 that signaled the end of World War I, known as Armistice Day.

This week, I encourage our students to write letters of appreciation, create handmade cards, or work together on a large poster to give to a veteran. Simply saying "thank you" to a veteran or someone in uniform can be a powerful way to show appreciation.

Thank you to parents, grandparents, family members, and all in our community who have served our country!

Important Message about Free and Reduced Meal Programs
If you have a student who is currently receiving free or reduced meals within our district, then we want to assure you that even through the ongoing federal government shutdown, your free or reduced meal benefit plan WILL NOT be disrupted beyond the upcoming weekend. It will continue as normal on Monday, November 3rd, 2025.

Furthermore, if you're a family that has not received free or reduced meal benefits in the past, but would like to explore how you can apply, then please go to this link that has more information and directs you to the online application:

Metal Detectors
As you know, we are implementing the metal detectors upon student arrival in the mornings. Please talk with your child about what is in their backpacks. We are asking students to remove Chromebooks, binders, and other items from their backpacks before they go through the detectors, to speed up the process and get students to class. The following items set off the alarm: three-ring binders, Chromebooks, metal cups, eye glass cases, makeup mirrors, eyelash curlers, cologne and body spray canisters, and umbrellas.

We have been able to get students in by 8:30, so we are no longer waiving tardies. We expect students to arrive with plenty of time to get through the detectors and make it to class. Thanks again for your trust and support as we put measures in place to keep our students and staff safe.

Graduation
Graduation is set for May 23, 2026, at 6:00 pm (MTSU Murphy Center). There is no limit on the number of people attending, so bring anyone who wants to come out and support your graduate. More information on graduation specifics will be emailed as we approach that time.
